An Invitation

Come Alive in Christ

Everybody longs to be connected to something greater than themselves; to know that they are involved in something truly significant and give themselves to an ultimate purpose. Deep within our soul one of our deepest fears is that we will come to the end of our life and not have accomplished anything of any lasting importance.

It doesn’t matter how many games you win, how much money you make, or how many promotions you receive… at the end of the day you still feel… empty. This longing that each one of us has at the core of our being to make our life count isn’t diminished by the narcotic of life’s successes or pleasures.

What makes life truly worth living? What is really worth getting out of bed in the morning for? Is reality just some purposeless existence where at the end of the day you don’t end up any different than when you started? Are we all just some sophisticated equivalent of the hamster running around in his wheel?

What are You Looking for? - PurposePerhaps this longing that each of us has, was put there for a purpose. Perhaps we were created for something greater than just getting by or even getting ahead. Perhaps the reason each one of us has this gut instinct that we were created for something significant is because we were created for something significant. If God exists, could it be possible that our longing for purpose is an echo of God’s purposes for us as people?

Jesus once said, “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” Jesus calls us out to pursue the deepest cravings of our soul which refuse to be satisfied with money, sex, success, or stuff. He invites us to step into his incredible purposes of knowing him and being used by him to redeem and restore a broken world divorced from God. The Early Church Father Irenaeus said the glory of God is a man fully alive. At Cornerstone, that’s our hope for men and women - to be fully alive - authentic and aligned with God’s purpose for their life.

Might it be possible, that as we engage God and his intentions for us as human beings, we may begin to understand the reasons we were created for? Could it be, as we attempt to embrace his purposes for our lives, we stop existing and actually come alive?
